After the phenomenal success of
X&Y, Coldplay, the anti-cool band that wants to be really anti-cool, now issues forth with
Viva La Vida. They've created a tighter musical style this time, fewer stadium anthems and guitar riffs while retaining songs that easily burrow into your subconscious. Pushed by producer Brian Eno, it's no surprise they sound a bit more like U2. Still, this is undeniably Coldplay music and should delight their millions of fans. All Music says, "And so the greatest thing Coldplay may have learned from Eno is his work ethic, as they demonstrate a focused concentration throughout this tight album -- it's only 47 minutes yet covers more ground than
X&Y and arguably
A Rush of Blood to the Head -- that turns
Viva La Vida into something quietly satisfying."
CD released June 17, 2008.
