John Mayer has been trying to lose his reputation of pop songs written for women. His blues trio tour was one way of exploring the roots of music he loves, and with
Continuum, he extends further his immersion into the musician he'd rather be.
Continuum can be seen as a melding of the old John Mayer with the new John Mayer, tapping into the blues and soul and Eric Clapton/Stevie Ray Vaughan influences of his past. The result is a musician maturing into his own musical style. He begins the album with "Waiting on the World to Change," an anti-war song from the Generation Y perspective. Other songs such as "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" and "Dreaming with a Broken Heart" look at the bitter side of love. All Music says, "the album is a devastatingly accomplished, fully realized effort that in every way exceeds expectations and positions Mayer as one of the most relevant artists of his generation."
CD released September 12, 2006.
