John Prine, now recovered from cancer, releases his first new album in nine years,
Fair and Square. Its songs are full of his trademark wit, social commentary, and innate sweetness sung in his gravelly voice. It's his first self-produced album and it combines various styles from folk, bluegrass, country, and a bit of that old time rock and roll. He's aided by Allison Krauss ("My Darlin' Hometown," "The Moon Is Down") and Mindy Smith ("Morning Train," "Long Monday" and "Taking A Walk"). The amazon.com reviewer says, "With a generous selection of close to an hour of music, the album stands as a creative triumph for Prine, a fully satisfying effort that rewards the patience of his loyal fans. Welcome back."
CD released April 26, 2005.
